In 2016, Dr. Asheli S. Atkins, PhD created Houston Black-Owned Businesses, LLC (HouBlkBus) following the steadily increasing murders of unarmed Black people in the United States. As the Black community fought for political and social justice, they simultaneously reignited the Buy Black movement. This movement focuses on Black consumers supporting Black-owned businesses, but first, they must find the Black-owned businesses... this is where Asheli stepped in.
